Uncompromising Core for Composite Fabrication
Aluminium honeycomb is the industry standard for creating ultra-rigid, lightweight composite structures. When bonded between composite skins—such as carbon fibre, fibreglass, or aluminium sheets—it creates a sandwich panel that exponentially increases structural stiffness without adding significant weight.
The Ideal Laser Cutting Bed
Beyond composite manufacturing, this specific 625mm x 625mm format is highly sought after as a custom or replacement cutting bed for CO2 and diode laser machines. It perfectly accommodates standard 600mm x 600mm work areas. The 10mm thickness provides rigid material support, whilst the 6.4mm open-cell structure allows the laser beam to pass through seamlessly. This prevents “flashback” (scorch marks on the underside of the workpiece) and ensures optimal airflow for highly effective smoke and fume extraction.
Mechanical Properties & Precision
The ECM 6.4-82 specification features a 6.4mm hexagonal cell structure with an 82kg/m³ density, providing uniform, predictable crush strength. The 10mm thickness is precision-machined to ensure a perfectly flat surface—critical whether you are preventing delamination in vacuum-bagged panels or ensuring precise focal distance across a laser cutting table.
Key Applications
- Laser Fabrication: Replacement honeycomb beds for laser cutting and engraving machines.
- Motorsport: Splitters, undertrays, bulkheads, and aero components.
- Marine & Aerospace: Lightweight decking, interior bulkheads, and non-structural panelling.
- Industrial: High-strength tooling boards and architectural cladding.
