APPLICATION GUIDE
1. SURFACE PREPARATION
- Paint Scraper
- Repair Material
- Degreaser
- Hosepipe
- Ramuc Clean and Prep
- Garden Pressure Sprayer
- Stiff Bristle Broom
- Sandpaper 100-grit
- Inspect plaster or concrete surfaces for integrity and soundness.
- Any loose or weak surfaces need to be removed with paint scraper or other tools.
- Do minor repairs and allow repair material to cure before continuing surface preparation. Dural 30/35NS can be used to fill voids and cracks on older concrete surfaces while Dymonic 100 can be used on live cracks. Follow datasheets on the repair material to be successful.
- Remove oils, grease and other contaminants by scrubbing with the Stiff Bristle Broom with a suitable degreasing product and rinsing with clean potable water.
- Allow floor to dry.
- Abrade the surface by etching with Ramuc Clean & Prep Solution using the Garden Pressure Sprayer to apply the solution or grinding to remove laitance and open all voids.
- Important: Ensure to not allow Ramuc Clean and Prep to set and ensure it is all washed off with water. Etching is the most important step, ensure the datasheet is followed.
- The roughened surface should have a texture similar to 100-grit sandpaper, and minimum tensile strength of 1.5 MPa and moisture content of 5% maximum.
- Allow surface to dry before application.
2. MIXING
- Flake-it Flooring Basecoat Part A and B X2
- Mechanical mixer
- Mixing bucket
- Mechanically mix Part A and Part B of one kit AMT Flake-it Flooring Basecoat separately, then pour Part B into Part A and mix mechanically.
- Pour the mix into a mixing bucket and scrape both Part A and B into this bucket. Further mix mechanically for 1 minute. (Please do not mix partial kits)
- Do not mix by hand or aerate the solution.
- Important: Please do not mix all kits at once. Mix only when ready to apply.
3. APPLICATION OF COLOUR COATS
- Flake-it Flooring Basecoat Part A and B X2
- Roller
- Brush
- Paint Flakes
- Stiff bristle broom
- Please ensure you have read the datasheet before application, ensure temperatures are not too high when applying.
- Thin the product with 5% (200ml) water and apply by roller and brush to seal the pores in the floor. Try to paint the first coat between 8am-9am.
- Paint around the perimeter of the room first by brush, ensuring not to go too thick and ensuring not to paint the corners of your walls.
- Paint between your perimeter with a medium nap roller ensuring not to roll the product too thick and ensuring not to leave roller marks. Do not over roll (this will cause bubble entrapment). Always work from the end furthest from the door and work your way out the room.
- Wait 6-8 hours before applying the 2nd coat. Ensure the room is well ventilated with windows and doors open.
- Mix the second kit of Flake-it Flooring Basecoat as above in the Mixing section.
- Apply 2nd coat unthinned with roller and brush.
- Work in 1m x 1m blocks and roll the coating on as you did the first coat. After every block is completed sprinkle flakes onto your wet coating before moving onto the next 1m x 1m section.
- Sprinkle paint flakes to your own liking. NB: Ensure to spread the flakes by throwing them under hand into the air. This will ensure that you spread the flakes evenly.
- Ensure the room is sufficiently ventilated when allowing the coating to dry.
- After 6-8 hours, if the coating is dry, go over the whole floor with a broom ensuring to remove any loose flakes or flakes that are sticking out of the surface.
- Clean up can be done with water.
4. APPLICATION OF CLEAR COATS
- Flake-it Flooring Clear Topcoat Part A and Part B
- Roller
- Brush
- Mechanical mixer
- Mixing bucket
- Mix the Part A and B of the clear topcoat just as you had mixed the basecoat in the Mixing section.
- The first coat of clear topcoat can now be coated over everything with a roller and brush. Apply the clear topcoat just as you did with the first basecoat. Ensure to work from the furthest end towards the door.
- After 6-8 hours follow up with a 2nd coat of clear topcoat if necessary.
5. CURING
- The coating can be exposed to light foot traffic after 24 hours of curing.
- For heavy traffic or cleaning with chemicals please wait 7 days.
