Resin casting is a method of plastic casting where a mold is filled with a liquid synthetic resin, which then hardens. The process is primarily used for small-scale production like industrial prototypes, reproducing small to medium size sculptures, model making, roto-casting, making special effect props and even jewelry production. The synthetic resin used in casting is a monomer for making a plastic thermosetting polymer. During the setting process, the liquid monomer polymerizes into the polymer, thereby hardening into a solid. AMT Composites offers a range of urethane plastics, which are rigid in comparison to urethane rubbers. The hardness of the cured urethane plastic is measured on the Shore "D" scale. The various resins, also known as “liquid plastics”, produce tough, durable, machinable and paintable castings that resist moisture and mild solvents.

Feather Lite® is a heavily filled low-density urethane casting resin. Cured plastic is lightweight (it floats in water!) and has a much lower density than other casting resins.
