LIFE CASTING
- Alja Safe
Alja-Safe
alginate is suitable for making "temporary" moulds
of the face, hands and other body parts. For making re-usable
moulds of any body part, use Body Double silicone rubber. Alja-Safe
is easy to use and cures quickly. It reproduces fine detail
and makes and excellent temporary mould - good for one or two
reproductions of any body part. You are however limited by
what you can cast into an alginate mould - usually plaster.
Alginate does not stick to anything and you don’t need
a release cream for most applications. For example you can
make a mould of the hair on your head with alginate by using
hair conditioner as a release agent. This couldn’t be
done with Body Double. Alja-Safe alginate does not contain
free crystalline silica (a known carcinogen).

- Body Double
Body double is a platinum cure silicone that is skin-safe
and designed for life-casting. The rubber can be applied directly
to the skin to make moulds of the face, hands and other body
parts. Release Cream can be used to prevent hair being trapped
by the rubber. The rubber cures quickly and will reproduce
detail better than alginate. You can cast almost anything into
a Body Double mould. You can cast liquid plastics, wax, plaster,
low temperature melt metal alloys, concrete and other materials
to make your reproduction. Body Double is supplied in 400ML
cartridges and therefore requires a manual dispensing gun with
a static mixing nozzle.
